Hilda Frey, 92, of Emerson, Nebraska passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010 at Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home in Emerson, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Emerson with Pastor Al Hohl officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Hilda was born on May 28, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Sophie (Dohrman) Hansen. She grew up in the Homer/Emerson area along with her siblings, Clarence, Raymond and Mildred. She was united in marriage to Delmer Frey on March 1, 1942. and to this union two children, Janet and Dennis, were born. Hilda followed Delmer around to the Army bases he was assigned to in the States and when he was sent overseas, she returned home to her parents until Delmer came back. After his return to the States, they began farming and farmed near Emerson all their married life. Hilda also worked for a short time at IBP and for many years at Milton G. Waldbaum in Wakefield. After retiring from there, she enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and quilting. Delmer passed away on July 23, 1987, and she remained on the farm for five years before moving into Emerson. She has spent the last four years at Heritage of Emerson where she received wonderful care. Hilda was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Luke's Lutheran Church WELCA, and the Emerson Senior Center. Left to treasure her memory are her daughter, Janet (Mike) Nowlen of Sioux City, IA, and her son Dennis (Bonnie) Frey of Lincoln, NE, four grandchildren: Amy and Kevin Frey, Troy Nowlen and Mike (Liz) Nowlen-Fritchman,, three great-grandchildren: Trevor Nowlen, Michael and Jacob Nowlen-Fritchman, brothers and Sisters-in-law: Wayne Frey, Carol (Sylvia) Frey, Larry (Linda) Frey and Luella Thompson, nieces and nephews, and special friends, Duane, Cindi and Luke Stolze. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brothers and sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or Heritage of Emerson.
