August Pape Jr., 78, of Rosalie, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosalie, NE with the Rev. Neal Mather officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE.
August Pape Jr., the son of August Pape Sr. and Elsie (Backoweis) Pape was born at the Pender Community Hospital on August 31, 1932. He was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Rosalie.
August married Norma Lane on November 17, 1953 at the Lutheran Church in Lawton, OK. He was in the U.S. Army at the time stationed at Fort Sill, OK. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter.
August farmed in Winnebago and Rosalie until 1978 when he retired. He then worked for Dean Daggett in plumbing and heating. He also sold Morman feed for several years. August was a volunteer fireman in Rosalie for several years. He enjoyed a good joke on other people. He also loved history and genealogy and he wrote a centennial book celebrating the history of Rosalie. August had a small personal museum which he loved to share with anyone who visited. He also loved to travel and passed that love onto his children.
August is survived by his wife, Norma, one daughter, Diana Pape of Indianapolis, IN, three sons: David and wife Lois of Framingham, MA; Steven and wife Vickie of Morgantown, KY; and James and special friend Sheila Walker of Pender, NE, eleven grandchildren: Rachel and husband Cecil Pendleton of Indianapolis, IN; Bobby Pape of Ogden, UT; Adam Pape and fiancee Kelsey Martin of Grapevine, TX; Ben Pape of Bowling Green, KY; Will and wife Ashley of Bowling Green, KY; Tim Pape of Pleasant Grove, UT; Chace Pape of Bowling Green, KY; Steven Pape of Mexico: Danny Pape of Morgantown, KY; Greg Pape of Framingham, MA; and Travis Mabie of Indianapolis, IN, and one great grandson, Dakota Pape of Idaho. He is also survived by two brothers; Vern and wife Mary Ann of Niwot, CO; and Gerrett and wife Denise of Green Valley, AZ, one sister, Connie Richardson and husband Larry of Bancroft, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews.
August was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gordon and Ronnie, and one sister, Marcie Hartwig.
