Helen Mayberry

Helen Mayberry passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 with her children at her side at Hospice in Tucson. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church; Pastor Glenn Schacht will be officiating. Burial will follow the lunch at Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Helen was born on December 31, 1919 in Emerson, Nebraska to August and Nora Schwarten. She was married to David Mayberry on September 7, 1939, and they initially farmed in the Pender area. In 1950 they successfully opened a florist business in Pender. For health reasons, they relocated to Tucson, Arizona in 1973, where they enjoyed many community activities. They were active in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Tucson. Helen and David enjoyed 67 years of marriage, until David’s death in 2006. Helen is survived by two children, Gene and wife Dianne of Naples, Florida and Janice MacFerrin of Tucson, Arizona, four grandchildren, Kurtis and Tiffany MacFerrin, and Kevin and Brian Mayberry, and one great-grandchild Nickolas Mayberry.
