Barbara Jean (Mielke) Edmunds, 82, of West Hartford, CT, died on February 4, 2011 in West Hartford. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bancroft Presbyterian Church in Bancroft. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft. Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Barbara was born on July 1, 1928 in Bancroft, Nebraska, the daughter of Louis E. and Daisie A. (Longwell) Mielke. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Bancroft. Barbara graduated with the class of 1947 from Bancroft High School. She attended business college in Omaha. She went to work for York Corp. as a personal secretary, and then worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone. After a few years she transferred to Hartford and worked for Southern New England Telephone Co. She retired from there after 37 years. She volunteered with social services at West Hartford town hall for the last 13 years. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and active in the West Hartford Senior Center. She suffered from colon cancer the past few years. Barbara is survived by her sister, Kathryn Ann Teten of Talmage, NE, brothers-in-law Michael J. Slahtosky of Connecticut, and Donald Teten of Talmage, NE, sister-in-law Audrey Mielke of Tacoma, WA, nieces Diane Slahtosky LaPointe, her care giver, of Maine, Sara (Craig) Maggio of Missouri, Suzanne (Teten) Vitale of Wisconsin, Sandy (Teten) Minnick of Arizona, Shirley Hill and Debbie Meader of Washington, nephews Charles L. Craig of Lincoln, NE, Ralph C. Craig of Tennessee and Dale a Slahtosky of Connecticut. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Nancy Jean on December 22, 1964, her sister, Norma Slahtosky of Connecticut, LaVonne A. Craig of Bancroft, NE and her brother, First Sergeant Wayne R. Mielke of Washington.
