Delbert "Bud" John Lueders

Delbert John "Bud" Lueders, 87, of Wisner, Nebraska, passed away on March 14, 2011 at the Pender Community Hospital after courageously battling lung cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, Nebraska, with the Reverend Brion Tolzman officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Interment will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, Nebraska. Bud was born on May 19, 1923 to George and Ethel (Smith) Lueders in Pender, Nebraska. He attended school in Rural Thurston County and earned his "Honorary" High School Diploma from Pender High School in 1999. Bud joined the U.S. Army on September 25, 1943 and was deployed to the European Theatre during World War II. He was awarded two bronze stars for heroic action during fighting in France, Belgium and Germany. He declined the Purple Heart even after being wounded twice. He was honorably discharged on February 28, 1946. After the War, Bud returned to Nebraska. Bud married Eunice Brown n April 13, 1946, with three children being born to this union, Douglas, Wayne and Laurie. In 1962 Bud and Eunice left the farm and moved to Wakefield. They owned Lueders Oil Company. In 1973, Bud and Eunice sold Lueders Oil and they worked in the food service industry in Emerson, Burwell and Stanton until 1984. Bud made his home in Walthill and Wisner until 2010 when he moved to Assisted living in Pender after being diagnosed with lung cancer. One of the highlights of his life was being able to go on an honor flight to Washington D.C on April 23, 2009, to visit the World War II Memorial. His outspoken but cheerful outlook will be missed by those that knew and loved him. Bud is survived by his children: Douglas and his wife Giselle of Dallas, TX; Wayne of Wisner, NE; Laurie and her husband Bill Dicke of Lincoln, NE and Anthony and his wife Emy of Yokosuka, Japan. He is also survived by special friend, Eleanor Tremayne and her children Roger and his wife LeAnn of Walthill, Merlyn and his wife Kristi of Homer, NE, and Starla Bendix and her husband Dave of Avoca, IA and their families. Also surviving are three brothers, Ronald of Omaha, NE; Keith of Westside, IA; and Gary of Omaha, NE, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Lueders, one sister, Alverna Barge, and his first wife Eunice. Memorials are suggested to the families discretion.
