George H. Albrecht, 96, of Thurston, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson with the Rev. Darwin Garton officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson. There will be an additional memorial service on Sunday, July 3, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson, with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. George Hans Traugott Albrecht was born December 31, 1914 in Pierce County Nebraska to George and Rose (Pates) Albrecht. The family moved to a farm southeast of Emerson, Nebraska in Thurston County in 1924. He attended Country School District 24 and completed a short course at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. George married Irene Wageman on June 27, 1943 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in rural Pender. The couple farmed in Thurston County throughout their life together. In his early adult life, George was active in 4-H, played on a country league baseball team, and was a member of a musical band that played at local dances. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson and served on the church council as well as the Perry Township board. George was a skilled problem solver and inventor who enjoyed creating things out of metal and wood. In his later years he particularly enjoyed crafting bird houses. George was a family man who loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Irene, brothers: Walter Albrecht of Thurston County, and Lester Albrecht of Dakota County, his children: George L. (Barbara )of Thurston county, Donald (Merlyce) of Waverly, Galen (Donette) of Fremont, Carol McMorris (Mark Smith) of Omaha, Lori (Rod) MacPherson of Omaha, his grandchildren: David (Trish) Albrecht, Jennifer (Ron) Guay, Karen (Mark)Hauser, Elizabeth Albrecht, Rebecca Albrecht, and Rorie MacPherson, and great grandchildren: Lauren Albrecht, Autumn Hauser, Ethan Albrecht, and Grant Hauser.
