Marjorie E. Johnson, 87, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. Funeral services for Marjorie will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Darwin Garton will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.
Marjorie was born on September 17, 1923 in Allen, Nebraska the daughter of Wilbur and Cora Belle (Dutton) Roberts. Marjorie was the youngest of eight siblings: Ross, Francis, Errol, Claude, and Donald Roberts, Gladys Mortinson and Iva Emry. After her mother’s death, she moved in with her siblings and finished High School in Wakefield graduating in 1940. She was united in marriage to Alden Johnson in Morningside, Iowa on February 15, 1947. To this union four children were born: Lowell, Glenn, Betty and Michael. Marjorie and Alden settled on a farm southwest of Wakefield, until retiring and moving into Wakefield in 1981. Alden died on August 21, 1997.
Marjorie was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, where she was active in the WELCA, a Sunday School teacher, Luther League sponsor, the Salem Quilters, XYZ and sang in the choir. She also belonged to the Neighborhood Club and was a long time member of Club 16. Marjorie enjoyed sewing, baking, quilting, and playing the piano.
She is survived by her children: Lowell and Kathy Johnson of Wayne; Glenn and Elaine Johnson of Lincoln; Betty and Dick Mays of Doniphan; Michael and Kristy Johnson of Tekamah, eight grandchildren: Mark and wife Shannon Johnson; Jon Johnson; Michaela Johnson and friend Rebecca Glover; Ryan Johnson; Evan Mays and wife Sheila; Eliot Mays; Kyle Johnson and wife Mary; and Cole Johnson. She was also blessed with six great grandchildren along with three on the way.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters and her husband Alden.
