Robert “Bob” R. Fredette, 70, of Dakota City, Nebraska died on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, Nebraska. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at River Hills Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska; Pastor Kevin Roach will be officiating. The visitation will begin on Monday morning at 9:30 A.M. at the Church. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. at South Creek Cemetery near Ponca, Nebraska. Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements.
Bob was born on September 20, 1941 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of August and Avonell (Porter) Fredette. At an early age the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where Bob was raised. He attended school at the Iowa School for the Deaf. Bob had Fredette Fencing, and later moved into the salvage industry. He lived in Jackson, Nebraska for a few years, later moving to Dakota City. He lived with his partner, Margaret “Maggie” O’Meara for over 40 years, until her death in 2007. Bob enjoyed time spent at auctions, and could be seen visiting with people at Wal-Mart and HyVee, where he always knew someone or someone knew him.
Bob is survived by his sisters and brother: Bev Berge of Lakewood, Colorado; Barb and husband Dennis Smith of S. Sioux City, Nebraska; Nancy Surber of Dixon, Nebraska; Bobette and husband Louie Gonzales of Allen, Nebraska; Brian and wife Sue Fredette of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his dogs PJ and Bo and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, lifelong partner Meg O’Meara and brother-in-law Mick Surber.
