Carl Eugene Schiemer

Carl Eugene Schiemer passed away on July 28, 2011 following an extended illness at his home in Eckert, Colorado surrounded by his loving family and friends. Carl was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1938 to Jesse Eugene and Edith Bard Kestinger Schiemer. He graduated in 1956 from Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard, Pennsylvania with a degree in Economics. Carl entered the United States Marine Corp in June of 1956 and was honorably discharged in April 1958 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While serving he received the Good Conduct Medal and was a Private First Class and served as a cook. In June of 1959, he began working as a precision machinist and worked at six different companies from Boston to San Diego. He was hired by Sundstrand Aviation in Denver in June of 1972. It was while at Sundstrand that he became a manufacturing engineer and retired from there in July of 1993. Carl was called back to Sundstrand and continued to work as a consultant for Sundstrand until 2002. Carl enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, golf, gardening, cooking, bowling and woodworking, especially intarsia woodworking. He excelled in all that he did and was a man of many talents. More than all of these, Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel and had visited every state in the U.S. except for Alaska, Washington and Oregon. Carl is survived by his wife of 33 years, Danielle (Fillipi) Schiemer of Eckert, Colorado; brothers: George (Miriam) Schiemer of Utica, NY; Ronald (Denise) Schiemer of Waianae, HI; and Robert Schiemer of Waterford, PA; his mother-in-law, Roxie Fillipi of Austin, CO; sisters-in-law, Michelle Isom of Austin, CO and Jamie (Jim) Thomas of Whitewater, CO; one brother-in-law, Rev. Jon (Debbie) Fillipi of Salina, KS and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Carl was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sisters: Violet Merchant and Margaret Fahringer; brother, Larry McGarvie; brother-in-law, Rick Isom and his best friend and father-in-law, Carroll Fillipi. A memorial service was held at his home located at 14357 Highway 65 in Eckert, Colorado on Thursday, August 4, 2011 with Chaplain Nina Gogenola officiating. Military Honors were conducted by the United States Army National Guard Honor Guard and Grand Mesa V. F. W. Post #9221. A service celebrating Carl’s life will be held Saturday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender with inurnment to follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Carl’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416.
