Dwaine E. Bjorklund

Dwaine E. Bjorklund 85, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church; Pastor Darwin Garton will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield. Dwaine Ernest Bjorklund was born on October 25, 2925, on a farm south of Wakefield, Nebraska. He was the son of Nels and Olga (Goldberg) Bjorklund. Dwaine was baptized on November 22, 1925 and confirmed on October 30, 1940 at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Dwaine attended rural school at District #59 in Wayne County and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1943. On August 26, 1956, Dwaine married Fern Jeanette Benson in Stanton, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Donavon and Deldean. He was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1987. Fern died on March 4, 2002. Dwaine continued to live on the farm until July when he broke his hip. Dwaine had always enjoyed raising livestock and farm crops, milking cows, chopping weeds and spending time with his family and friends. He was a seed dealer for Wilson Seeds, Inc. for many years. Over the years Dwaine also enjoyed traveling, playing cards (especially 10 point pitch), watching all kinds of ballgames on TV and striking up a conversation with anyone he had met. He had been an usher and a member of XYZ at Salem Lutheran Church. Dwaine also enjoyed attending the Wakefield Senior Citizen Center. Survivors include his two sons and their wives: Donavon and Nadine Bjorklund of Wakefield and Deldean and Marietta Bjorklund of Hadar; his five grandchildren: Stephanie, Tara, Derrick, Benjamin and Emily Bjorklund. He is also survived by five nieces and three nephews. Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fern, and sister and brother-in-law Eunice and Elroy Johnson.
