Maxetta Maslonka

Maxetta Maslonka, 92, of Walthill, Nebraska, died on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill. Maxetta was born along with twin sister Maxene on 20 August 1919 in rural Ainsworth, Nebraska, to Homer and Pearl (Bingham) Shattuck. She attended Pleasant Valley and Springview Schools before moving to Bassett where she graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1938. On 14 September 1941 she married Edward Maslonka in Ainsworth. Two sons, Larry and Sidney, were born to this union. After their marriage the couple rented a farm east of Macy where they farmed until 1968. In their leisure time the couple enjoyed reading, bowling and fishing. They also enjoyed many vacations and fishing trips to South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. Ed died on 5 May 1968. After Ed's passing, Maxetta moved to Walthill and worked for Golden Rod Hills as a head cook for the nutrition program for the elderly. They served a total of two hundred fifty thousand meals. In 1975 she attended Northeast Technical Community College at Norfolk where she earned a State Food Handlers Certificate. In 1978 she became Assistant Cook at the Walthill Public School District 13 where she served two hundred and fifty students and teachers every day. During her leisure time she enjoyed visiting family and friends, sewing, painting and tending her home and house plants. Maxetta is survived by her sons: Larry and his wife Peggy of Lyons, Nebraska, and Sid of Rosalie, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and one sister Metta Maslonka of Lincoln, NE. Maxetta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward, twin sister Maxene Duncan, sister Marlene Brock, and brothers Mervin and Larmar Shattuck.
