Don Eldon Ring, 71, of North Bend, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011 surrounded by family, friends and a lot of love in Hospice Care at his home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Walthill, Nebraska. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE.
Don was born on March 2, 1940 in Walthill, Nebraska, the son of Alvin and Truth (Vassar) Ring, and spent most of his adult life there. At an early age he worked construction, then for Campbell Manufacturing for fifteen years, and then for twenty seven years on the Thurston County Bridge crew.
Don married Lorraine Greenfield in 1981, and later, in 2001, married Mary Hassel. The couple made their home in North Bend, Nebraska.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons: Shane Greenfield and his wife Tina of Wisner, NE; and Jay Greenfield and his wife Shannon of Walthill, Nebraska, two step sons, Brad Samuelson and his wife Kim of Shawnee, KS; and Jeff Samuelson and his wife Jill of Liberty, MO, two step-daughters Paula Hines of North Bend, NE, and Tammy Wise and her husband Craig of Harrison, MO. He is also survived by two brothers: Stanley Ring and his wife Lucille of South Sioux City, and Rick Palmer of South Sioux City, one sister, Oma Rogers and her husband Ralph of Dakota Dunes, SD, two sisters-in-law, Gus Palmer and Elaine Palmer of South Sioux City, several grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Lestava Ring; Connie Young, and Joan Andersen, three step-brothers: Bob, Tom and Billy Palmer, two brothers-in-law: Earl Andersen and George Young, and Stepdaughter Lori Samuelson.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Meyer, Dan Hankins, Bullet Beaudette, Randy King, Dave Wingett, and Doug Wingett.
