Milon J. Tonjes

Milon J. Tonjes, 88, of Pender, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Legacy Gardens Care Centre in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska with the Rev. Miles Ruch officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Milon was born on December 26, 1922, in Cuming County, Nebraska, the son of George F. and Anna (Wollmer) Tonjes. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Pender High School in 1941, and began farming in Thurston County. He retired in 2010 after selling his farm. Milon married Elaine Wurdeman on February 20, 1944. To this union four children were born, Linda, Nancy, Joel and Russell. Milon is survived by two daughters: Linda Hinkle and Nancy Hoppner and her husband Bill, both from Lincoln, NE, two sons: Joel and his wife Evelyn of Huntington Beach, CA, and Russell and his wife Mary Kay of Pender, NE. He is also survived by two brothers, Lowell and his wife Marlene of Pender, NE, and Royce and his wife Marianne of Erie, PA, and sister-in-law Marcelene Tonjes of Pender, NE, thirteen grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Milon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elaine, two brothers, Bernard and Floyd, and one son-in-law, John Hinkle.
