Pearl M. Carlson, 98, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. Memorial services for Pearl will be held at a later date.
Pearl was born in Coleridge, Nebraska on December 8, 1913, the daughter of Otto and Mamie (Oliver) Fink. She attended and graduated from Coleridge High School. Shortly after graduating from High School, Pearl moved from Coleridge to Wakefield, Nebraska. On April 2, 1934, she was united in marriage to Iver “Skiv” Carlson. To this union three children were born: Terry, Gene and Beth. Pearl worked as a telephone operator in the 1950’s in Wakefield, later worked at the Farmers Union Coop. After the death of Skive in 1974, she began working at the Wakefield Republican.
She was a member of the Wakefield Christian Church all of her adult life. Pearl was active in teaching children and serving as a leader for the Women’s Ministry. She had a special gift of prayer. Pearl loved people and found it easy to relate to anyone and pray for them.
Pearl is survived by her children: Terry and wife Linda of St. Joseph, MO, Gene and his wife Janet of Wichita, KS and Beth Laue of Burbank, CA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a sister Betty Montgomery of St. Charles, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great grandson Luke Popenfoose, and three brothers: Howard, Bill and Don Fink.
