Walter Dale Burhoop

Walter Dale Burhoop, 75, of Pender, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Pender Community Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft, Nebraska, with the Rev. Philip Hale officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh~Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft. Dale was born on February 11, 1936 on a farm near Thurston, Nebraska, the son of Walter and Nelda (Korth) Burhoop. He attended country school near Thurston, District #72 near Bancroft, and graduated from Bancroft High School. He married Marilyn Crowell on October 9, 1955 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft. He farmed all of his life, he also worked for Campbells, Rinks, Automatic, and Restful Nights. He was a Leader of the Rosalie Feeders 4-H Club and he belonged to the Bancroft Saddle Club for over 50 years. He lived in the Bancroft area until 2010 when he moved to Pender. The love of his life was his wife, Marilyn, his children, grand and great grandchildren. He enjoyed his horses, his dog Journey, playing cards, flea markets, trail riding, antiquing, garage sales and creating metal sculptures. Most of all Dale enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Dale never met a stranger. Dale is survived by his wife Marilyn of Pender, son Jerry Burhoop of Scott City, KS, daughter Sandy (Jake) Tremayne of Walthill, NE, son Steve (Kyra) Burhoop of Leoti, KS, and son Troy (Cindy) Burhoop of Salina, KS. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, sister Imogene (Arvid) Samuelson of Wakefield, NE, brother David (Judy) Burhoop of Bancroft, aunts Delores Tonjes of West Point, Ne, and Ruth Korth of Wayne, Ne, sisters-in-law Jackie Larsen of South Sioux City, NE, and Yvonne Sporhase of Omaha, NE, brother-in-law Bill Bennett or Tarzana, CA, and several nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Brian Samuelson, sister-in-law Carol Lynn Bennett and a brother-in-law, Vern Larsen.
