Lora M. Wallwey

Lora Marie Wallwey, 99, of Emerson, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday February 26, 2012 at Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 29, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson with the Reverend Gretchen Ritola officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Lora was born October 4, 1912 to John and Eva Babette (Albrecht) Ruge in rural Pender, NE. She settled in rural Emerson area with her parents and sisters in 1919. Lora graduated from Emerson High School in 1930 with a teaching degree. She attended summer school several summers at Wayne Teachers College (Wayne State College). She taught in rural schools in Thurston and Dakota Counties. She married Lester Wallwey on November 22, 1936 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, Lester passed away on January 19, 2006. They lived on their farm Northeast of Emerson, until 1977 when they retired and moved into their home in Emerson. Lora moved to Heritage of Emerson on March 8, 2007 where she resided until her death. Lora enjoyed participation in her church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school for 40+ years, and was a member of the Women of the ELCA. In later years she was active in the Emerson Senior Center, choral, band, quilting (300 plus quilts) and volunteering. She served on the Bank Board of the First National Bank, the Emerson, library board and the election board. She and her husband were honored with the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award in 1984. Survivors include three sons, Leon and his wife Betty of Midland, Mich.; Dennis of Denver, Colo.; Loren and his wife Gloria of Emerson, Neb.; 6 grand children and their spouses Brian and Beth Wallwey and their children , Cassie and Alyssa of Arlington, OH; Ramona and Dan Lauback and their children, Nathan and Bradley of Beavercreek, OH; Rhonda and Mark Cavallo and their children, Kaitlyn and Jeremy of Davisburg, MI; Dean and Marjorie Wallwey and their son, Douglas of Aurora, CO; Jon and Jennifer Wallwey and their children Alex Kucera, Delaney and Connor Wallwey of Omaha, NE; and Greg and Becky Wallwey of Kearney, NE; and a sister, Mildred Johnson of Corona, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; her parents; 2 sisters, 6 month old Bernice Ruge and Elsie Wallwey; an infant son Roger Lee; a grandson, Scott Wallwey; and a daughter-in-law Jane Wallwey.
