Mary Jane Kiersch, 88, of Rosalie, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services for Mary will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rosalie, Nebraska; Pastor Robert C. Johnson will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Munderloh ~ Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Mary was born July 14, 1923 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the daughter of Cosmir and Elda (Smith) Britt. She graduated from Frazee High School in Frazee, Minnesota in 1941 and Business School in 1942. She worked for a wholesale grocer firm and a real estate firm in St. Paul, Minnesota. On February 2, 1946, Mary was wedded to Leonard Kiersch in St. Paul, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple moved to Silver City, Iowa and later moving to Rosalie, Nebraska in 1950. She was employed at Rosalie Public School from 1959 until 1989. Following her retirement from the school, she served as the part-time parish secretary for Bethany Lutheran Church and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. From 1994 until 2003 she worked part-time as the Rosalie Village Clerk. She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as treasurer for many years, also involved with WELCA, Wide Awake Club and Birthday Club. Mary also enjoyed reading and crocheting. Mary is survived by her son, Charles (Christine) Kiersch of Fremont, NE, daughter, Katherine (Lon) Hoppel of Waverly, NE, two grandsons, Castan (Angela) Kiersch of Danville, PA, Cameron (Christa) Kiersch of Fort Collins CO, one granddaughter, Nicole Hopple of Rogers AR, two great-grandsons, Cameron and Rylan Kiersch of Danville, PA, a brother-in-law, Herman (Carol) Kiersch of Clarinda, IA, and a sister-in-law Adeline Hemmerling of Omaha, NE. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, parents, two sisters, one brother, one brother-in-law, and grandson, Carrick Kiersch.
