James L. Hallstrom 74, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home in Wakefield after a battle with cancer. Funeral services for Jim will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Kelly Johnston will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the church in Wakefield. The family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Jim was born in Wayne, Nebraska on January 3, 1938, the son of Ivan and Verna (Anderbury) Hallstrom. As a child, Jim attended rural school near Wakefield. Over the years, he worked for several different companies including: Hugelman Farms, Felco, Fullerton Lumber in Wakefield, Nebraska, Yankton, South Dakota and Danbury, Iowa, Lorenson Lumber in Wakefield, Diamond Automation and M.G. Waldbaum. Jim was married on April 1, 1955 to Frances Schlines at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Randy, Lori, Lisa and Mike.
Jim enjoyed spending time outside gardening, fishing and camping. He also spent time wood working. Jim also loved the time he spent canning with his family and his two dachshund’s Koko and Sam.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Fran of Wakefield; children Randy and wife Deb Hallstrom of Fremont, Ne, Lori Weir of Wakefield, Lisa and husband Val Johnson of Pender, Ne and Mike and wife Hayley Hallstrom of Pender, Ne. Jim is also survived by his eleven grandchildren: Jace and Jena Hallstrom, Eric Bevelhymer, Chris and wife Leanna Bevelhymer and their two children Trystan and Madison, Brindi Weir, Brason Weir, Jamie Belt, Jesse Johnson, Asia Johnson, Michelle and Reanna Hallstrom. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Merle Schlines of Omaha, Ne and a sister-in-law Mardell Hallstrom of Wayne, Ne. and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ivan and Verna, brothers Verneil Hallstrom and Denny Bergerson and a sister Shirlene Haines.
