Shirley A. Brasch, 80, of Pender, formerly of Bancroft, Nebraska died on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft; Pastor Phillip Hale will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh ~ Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Shirley was born in Scribner, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Shomshor) Lange on June 12, 1931. After graduating from Scribner High School, she went on to work for several years at Zookers Hatchery as a bookkeeper. On August 23, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Vernon Brasch in Scribner, Ne. To this union two sons were born: Jon and Lee. After their marriage, Shirley and Vernon worked together on the farm. Shirley and Vernon were awarded as a 100 year Pioneer Family Farm by Aksarben in 2001. She was active in the Farm Bureau, the Extension Service and the Old Settlers, where she was secretary and treasurer for several years. Shirley enjoyed working on family genealogy and the times she spent dancing with Vernon. On January 12, 2005 Vernon passed away. Due to her Parkinson’s Disease, Shirley moved into the Pender Care Center in 2001. Shirley is survived by her sons: John Brasch of Rosalie and Lee and his wife Lydia Brasch of Bancroft, Ne, two step grandchildren: Alyssa and husband Eric Chap of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Dylan and wife Francesca VanDeWalker of Lincoln, Ne and three step great-grandchildren: Tommy, Callison and Elise Chap. She is also survived by her sisters: Irene Hoge of Scribner, Ne and Norma Jean and husband Kenneth Long of Lincoln, Ne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon and a brother Emil.
