Otto Henry Schubauer, 75, of Thurston, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Munderloh~Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, Nebraska with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. A visitation will precede the funeral at the Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson.
Otto was born on August 16, 1936, in Valentine, Nebraska, the son of Max and Martha (Borszich) Schubauer. He attended school in Valentine, Ne. Otto entered the U.S. Army on May 11, 1960, and was honorably discharged on May 10, 1966. Otto was stationed in Germany where he was a driver for the officers on base. Upon his return he married Margaret (Wrage) Schubauer (later divorced). In 1968 Otto and his family moved to the rural Dakota City area where he worked as a farm hand. Otto also worked in the Agricultural field in Emerson NE and Pender, Ne. Upon his retirement Otto resided in the rural Thurston area where he was self-employed.
Otto is survived by son Jerry Schubauer and his wife Mary, daughter Arelene Simon and her husband Larry, sons Lyle Schubauer, Max Schubauer and his wife Jill, Kelly Schubauer and his wife Nikki, and daughter Holly Verbeski and her husband Don, and siblings Monica Franke, Melvin Schubauer and his wife Inez , Greg Schubauer and his wife Carol, Frank Schubauer and his wife Fern, Wanda Schubauer and Don Bruce. He is also survived by special friend Patricia Krueger, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Otto was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ted Schubauer, two sisters, Rose Bruce and Ruth Williams, and a sister-in-law, Beverly Schubauer.
