Katherine & Verdell Lund

Verdell "Dell" Bernard Lund and Katherine E. Lund were long time residents of Wakefield. They are being brought home for burial on June 2, 2012. Katherine passed away on October 8, 2011 in Fort Collins, CO. Verdell passed away October 5, 2004 in Loveland, CO. Dell was born to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Hypes) Lund on May 27, 1915 in Wakefield, NE. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1932. Katherine was born in Plankington, So. Dakota on September 15, 1914 to Robert and Catherine Culton. She grew up in Council Bluff, Iowa where she also graduated from high school and attended business college. On September 25, 1937 Katherine and Dell were married. They farmed near Wakefield and later took over the family farm where they raised pigs, milked cows and raised corn and other crops. Katherine was a wonderful cook and baked many cookies, bread rolls, pies and cakes for the four boys, Dell, Grandpa Ben and many relatives and friends. She also was an accomplished seamstress and made all of her own clothes. They lived here until they retired from the farm in 1971. After traveling for a year they moved to Fort Collins, CO, where they lived until their deaths. Dell passed away October 5, 2004 and Katherine joined him in heaven on October 8, 7 years later. They are survived by son Charles and his wife Penny of Fort Collins. Daughters in law, Sharon Lund and Jane Tanner. Sister, Gwen Gerlinger of Hastings, MI., grandchildren, Yvonne, , Keith Curtis , Dawn , Denise ,Stephanie, Nicole and Karin. They are also survived by 24 great grandchildren. They were preceded in death by their parents, sons, Gary, Daniel and Sonny and grandchildren Katherine and Brent. Graveside services will be June 2, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Wakefield Cemetery. Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield, Nebraska are in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
