Judy B. Schopke, 72, of Emerson, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 peacefully at her home in Emerson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson, with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson. Judy was born on December 12, 1939 in Turin, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Blanche (Allen) Carritt. She grew up in Turin, graduating from High School in Onawa, Iowa. Judy married Harlan Schopke on December 11, 1991. During her life she worked for Mutual of Omaha, The Iowa Department of Transportation (Highway Division), the Monona County as a dispatcher, and Michaels Foods. Judy was President of the American Legion Auxillary. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and the out-of-doors. She especially enjoyed working with Harlan on the farm. Judy was a great cook, and a generous and giving person. Other favorite interests include Dancing, playing cards (Gin Rummy), crossword and word search puzzles. Judy is survived by her children: Steve "Opie" (Tracy) Flax of Spokane Washington, Mike (Amy) Flax of Emerson, NE, Roxann (Rob) Stark of Minot, ND, Mark Schopke of Wakefield, Paul (Janet) Schopke of Pender, NE, Heidi (Steve) Swanton of Wentzville, MO, and John (Jennifer) Schopke of Kearney, Nebraska. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, brothers: Joe Carritt, and Jerry (MaryLou) Carritt both of Onawa, IA, and a sister Barb Lambert of Onawa, IA. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, son Kelly Richardson, her husband Harlan Schopke, and a brother Donald Carritt.
