Dr. Charles G. Muffly, 91, of Pender, Nebraska died on Tuesday September 4, 2012 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender; Fr. Gerald Leise will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the church in Pender. The family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the church, with a rosary service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender. Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.
Charles was born on November 4, 1920 on a farm near Meadow Grove, Nebraska, the son of George and Manie (Crook) Muffly. He graduated in 1938 from Tilden High School. After graduation he attended Wayne State College for a year. Charles then entered the United States Army Air Corps, where he served as a medic. After the military, he earned his degree in medicine from the University of Nebraska in 1951. Charles was united in marriage to Joan Connealy in Tekamah, Nebraska on May 29, 1953. He worked for a short time in Hay Springs, Nebraska before moving to Pender in 1953. Charles practiced medicine in Pender for 45 years before retiring in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jo; sons Tom of St. Maries, Idaho, Dan and wife Paula of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Dave of Cupertino, California; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents George and Manie, an infant daughter Mary, and his sisters Edith, Elena and Lota.
