Lumer G. Fillipi, 91, of Thurston, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, at 10:30 A.M. at the John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston, with the Rev. Charity Potter officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.
Lumer was born on February 22, 1921 at the home in Rural Thurston, Nebraska, the son of Frank and Blanche (Vraspir) Fillipi. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting on October 21, 1942, and receiving an honorable discharge on November 28, 1945. He married Lois Mahler in 1957. Lumer had worked for several feedlot's around the area during his life. He was a member of the Kenneth P. Lewin Post #372 American Legion and John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston. Lumer enjoyed fishing, gardening and doing the yard work for many people in the Thurston community. He also took great joy in spending time with grandkids and great grandkids.
Lumer is survived by daughters: Ann Grell and her finace Tom Lutjen of Bancroft, NE, and Diann Kai of Pender, NE, sister Elsie Hearns of Mokena, IL, son-in-law Robert Grell of Thurston, NE. He is also survived by grandchildren: LeAnne Braniff and her husband John, Megan Calder and her husband Shawn, Ashley Grell and her partner Shane Siebrandt, Connie Kai and Jeff Kai, and Barb Kai and her partner Jeronimo Rodriquez, as well as eight great grandchildren.
Lumer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, brothers: Jerry Fillipi, Ed Fillipi, sisters: Josephine Niemann, Irene Doupnik, Libby Grothe, Ann Armitage, and Martha Fillipi, grandson Gary Kai and son-in-law Jack Kai
