Elaine R. Zimmerman, 89, of Bancroft, NE passed away Wednesday, October 03, 2012 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, NE. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 6, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, with Pastor Philip Hale officiating. Visitation will be Friday, October 5, from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery, Bancroft, NE.
Elaine was born on July 14, 1923 in the home of her parents John and Pauline (Rabe) Raasch in Bancroft. She was baptized on August 26, 1923, and confirmed on June 5, 1938 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft. Elaine graduated from Bancroft High School in May of 1941, and attended Business School. She was employed during World War II at the Glenn L Martin Bomber plant in Omaha.
Elaine married Harlan L. Zimmerman on June 6, 1943. They farmed for 50 years southwest of Bancroft before retiring and moving to West Point in 1994. Elaine moved to Meridian Gardens in Columbus in 2010 to be near her daughter.
Elaine was the Mother of three daughters Janie, Nancy and Jean– her greatest accomplishment.
She was an avid reader, liked the challenge of crossword puzzles and trivia. She was a nature lover, and enjoyed oil and watercolor painting. She especially enjoyed her days at the Senior Center in West Point. Elaine was a past member of Church, Extension and Social Clubs. She was a member of various Art Clubs, including the “Association of Nebraska Art Club” for over twenty five years.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harlan in 2001, daughter Nancy, son-in-law Danny Stacy, brothers: Harold, John, Waldo, Leroy and Eugene, and sisters: Beatta, Vernita, Vivian and Berniece.
Those who are left to remember her with love are her daughters: Janie (Harry) McDonald of Grand Junction, CO. and Jean (James) Brock of Creston, NE, granddaughter, Tiffany Jones of Las Vegas, NV, granddaughter Erica Spier of Omaha, grandson Aaron Brock of Omaha, and granddaughter Natalie (Lewis) Evans of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by great grandchildren: Dylan and Carson Spier, Angelina Keith and Adilyn Evans. sister-in-law Loretta Raasch of Bellflower, CA and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
