Wayne H. Wagner, 72, of Pender, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pender, with the Rev. Robert Schilling officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pender. Wayne was born on August 28, 1940, in Norfolk, Nebraska, the son of Harold and Hertha (Bick) Wagner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1957, and from Wayne State College in 1961 with a Bachelors Degree in business. He went on to earn a Masters Degree in math from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1971. On December 27, 1961, he married Edna Bates at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Wayne's teaching career began at Homer, NE followed by Farwell, and then moving to Pender in 1967. He retired in 1997 ending a 37 year teaching career. Wayne was a member of the Luther Layman's League, holding various positions. He was also a member of the Stewardship Committee at St. John's. Wayne is survived by his wife Edna, daughter Sheri (Dan) Johnson of Thurston, NE, son Kevin (Tanya) Wagner of Hickman, NE, sister Judy (Glen) Cleveland of Meadow Grove, NE, grandchildren: Zack, Drake and Karlee Johnson, and Madelynn and Aubrey Wagner, a brother-in-law Wayne (Sue) Bates of Scottsdale, AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, son Scott one infant sister, and a brother-in-law Francis Bates.
