Lon Chaney

Robert Lon Chaney of Pender, Nebraska passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Pender Community Hospital, in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 12 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska with the Rev. Miles Ruch officiating. A visitation will be held at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender on Sunday evening from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pender. Lon was born on November 23, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Joseph and Viola (Windhorst) Chaney. He graduated from Pender High School, and then joined the U.S. Marine Corp, enlisting on June 1, 1967 and receiving an honorable discharge on May 31, 1971. During his service he achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Lon married Judy Powley on April 14, 1973 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender. He operated Logan Valley Sales Company until his retirement. Lon belonged to the local VFW / Legion, serving as All State Commander from 1987 to 1988. He also belonged to AM-Vets. He enjoyed Fishing, Hunting, Camping, Husker Football, and spending time with his family. Lon is survived by his wife Judy, sister Linda Campbell of Omaha, Aunt and Uncle Sonny and Marlene Chaney of Omaha, NE, and Uncle Bud Darden of Omaha, NE, mother-in-law Shirley Powley of Pender, brother and sister-in-law Steve and Shelly Powley of Fremont, NE, nieces and nephews: Danika Powley of Council Bluffs, IA, Dustin Powley of Lincoln, NE, and Dylan Powley of Wisner, NE, and Heather Campbell of Walthill, NE, and Britt Campbell of Omaha, NE, and great nephews Bryson and Ryan Powley of Lincoln, NE. Lon was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Viola Chaney as well as father-in-law Wayne Powley and an aunt, Mary Darden.
