Pearl D. Schmidt, 94, of Beemer, Nebraska died on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church south of Pender. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening. Burial will be in the Beemer Cemetery. Pearl's family wishes memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church. Pearl was born on July 13, 1918 near Pender, Nebraska, the daughter of Arend and Annie(Schultz) Essman. She and her twin brother, Earl, were baptized on September 1, 1918 and confirmed on April 9, 1933 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. On May 22, 1936, Pearl graduated from Pender High School. She attended business school and was employed as an executive secretary at Metropolitan Utilities District. Pearl later worked as a secretary with Seaboard Railroad in Norfolk, Virginia. On April 11, 1948, Pearl was united in marriage to Ervin Schmidt. They had three daughters and made their home on the Schmidt farm near Pender, before moving into Beemer in 2001. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served as the organist for 20 years. Pearl also served in a leadership role in the LWML and the Jolly 15 extension club. Pearl is survived by three daughter and their husbands: Cleone Ehrisman and husband Roy of Beemer, Nebraska, Claudia Cordes and husband Bill of Omaha, Nebraska and Cathy Kenyon and husband Dennis of Kearney, Nebraska. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ervin in 2008, two brothers and six sisters.
