Della C. Mattes

Della C. Mattes, 89, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Terry Buethe will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Della was born at Wakefield, Nebraska on April 3, 1918, the daughter of William and Ella (Test) Thomsen. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Della grew up on a farm Northeast of Wakefield. On December 30, 1945 she was married to Joseph P. Mattes at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Della and Joe farmed on her family farm until 1975, when they moved into Wakefield. She was involved in Home Extension and was active in Couples Club at St. John’s. Joe and Della enjoyed square dancing with all their friends. Her hobbies included quilting and handcrafts. Della is survived by her husband Joe of Wakefield, a son and his wife William and Sandra Mattes of Wakefield, three grandchildren: Scott and wife Angela Mattes of Irvine, California, Sara and husband Andy Rygol of Omaha, Nebraska and Brian Mattes and fiancé Laci Engel of Wakefield as well as four great grandchildren Regan Mattes, Kaleigh Mattes, Zander Rygal and Alexis Hough. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws: Lydia Thomsen of Wayne, Ruth Mattes of Allen and Dorothy Mattes of Laurel. Della was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Martin, Laurence and Harold and a sister Frances Brinkman.
