Clifton Dunn

Clifton H. Dunn, 90, of Walthill, Nebraska died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services for Clifton will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Walthill; Pastor Dean Ross will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the church in Walthill. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery of Walthill. Clifton H. Dunn was born on May 3, 1922 to C.C. Dunn and Lila (Hahlbeck) Dunn. He was the fifth of seven children. Clifton graduated from Walthill High School in 1940. He farmed all his life on the family farm two miles north of Walthill. Clifton and family raised cattle and pigs. The farm also included a herd of Holstein milk cows. They also raised laying hens and broilers selling the eggs to local customers and raised broilers for their own table, as well as selling some. The farm also produced corn, soybeans, alfalfa and oats. Clifton was an avid gardener giving away much of the bounty that was produced. The garden always included some flowers that were picked just for Carol. He married the love of his life, Carol Heide on August 28, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Bloomfield, NE. Throughout their lives, Clifton and Carol were active members of Faith United Presbyterian Church. Clifton was a church Elder and was an integral part of the Session for many, many years. He was a delegate to the Homestead Presbytery since the formation of Faith United Presbyterian Church in the mid 1980’s. He also served on the Walthill School Board during the late 1950’s, and served as Treasurer for a time. He was a member of the Evergreen Cemetery Board, working to make many improvements and beautifying the grounds. Clifton never fully retired, in later years he enjoyed working part-time at Joe’s Ace Hardware in South Sioux City and later on, for Greg’s Food Town in Walthill. Clifton had many friends throughout the Walthill area. They were part of a neighborhood group that got together for special occasions and an annual Christmas party. He was a heart patient and took very seriously the recovery and life changes needed to keep him healthy. He faithfully participated several times a week in the Mercy Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation program. Through this participation, he and Carol made numerous friends that supported one another. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol; his parents and his six siblings; sisters Dorothy Dunn and Caroline Gustafson, and brothers Lewis, Orville, Calvin and Lee Dunn. He is survived by two daughters: Susan Dunn (Robert Stewart) of Lincoln, and Tammy Peterson (Kyle) of Dakota City, two granddaughters, Katie and Lila Peterson of Dakota City and three step-grandchildren, Christine Scott and family of Lincoln, Mark Stewart and family of Omaha and Robert Stewart II and family of Malcolm; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
