Thurston, NE Doris Jean Duncan, 77, of Thurston, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home in Emerson, NE. Funeral services for Doris will be Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston with the Rev. Charity Potter officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, Nebraska. Doris was born on April 2, 1935 in Emerson, Nebraska, the daughter of Thomas and Lena (Hoeck) Belt. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, Nebraska. She graduated from Emerson Public School in 1953. She married Glen E. Duncan on October 8, 1955. Two children were born to this union. The couple farmed near Thurston and attended the Presbyterian Church in Thurston. Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her cats and dogs. Doris was a member of the Methodist Church in Thurston before joining the John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston. She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed crocheting, working with ceramics, playing cards, gardening and raising flowers. Doris liked visiting with friends and even traveled to Branson, Missouri with them. Doris is survived by two children: Tom Duncan and his wife Cathy of Emerson, NE, and Ron Duncan of Pender, NE, grandchildren: Mick Duncan and his wife Rebecca of Emerson, NE, Aliscia Anderson and her husband Aaron of Fremont, NE, Andy Duncan and his wife Amber of Fort Riley, KS, and Tommy Duncan of Pender, NE. she is also survived by eight great grandchildren, a sister Esther Watkins of Hubbard, NE, three sisters-in-law Rachel Belt of Emerson, NE, Joyce Blair of Homer, NE, Ruby Duncan of Thurston, NE and brother-in-law Marvin Duncan of Hubbard, NE, and several nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her husband Glen, parents, a sister Kathryn Mitchell, four brothers Harold, Donald, Hermie and infant brother Virgil.
