Steve A. Dunn

Steve A. Dunn, 55, of Walthill, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the IHS hospital in Winnebago, NE. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walthill School Gymnasium in Walthill, NE, with Pastor Harold Ross and Pastor Nola Briggs officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Faith United Presbyterian Church in Walthill, NE, with a Masonic Lodge prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE following the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to the family: 2801 “I” Ave. Walthill, NE 68067. Steve was born on December 19, 1957 at Oakland, Nebraska to Lee and Grace (Davenport) Dunn. Steve grew up ¼ mile north of Walthill on the family farm. He was a 4th generation farmer. He shared his life with the community of Walthill his entire life. He attended Walthill Public Schools and graduated in 1976. He was always a farmer at heart, working with his dad and uncles on the family farm during his youth and continuing farming throughout his life. He began his work life in high school working for Greenfield Standard after school. He worked for Emmett McGhee farms, Omahaline, Dan Barger, Jones Intercable, Evergreen Cemetery, Gambles, Walthill Service, Fogarty Enterprises, Stanek Farms, Dolezal Dairy, and his last 11 years as Maintenance at Walthill Public Schools. He was an active community member, an elder in the Faith United Presbyterian Church, a member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Evergreen Cemetery Board. His love of his work place and work family and school kids, was second only to his love for his family. Steve married his high school sweetheart, Rita Twyford, on June 5, 1976. They would be soul-mates and sweethearts for the next 37 years. They would live in Walthill their entire lives, twenty years in town across from the school until moving to their current farm one mile north of Walthill. Steve and Rita were blessed with four children. April Sundberg (Jeremy), Alec and Calleigh of Grand Island; Lee Dunn (and friend Ashley), Emma and Ethan of Columbus; Clinton Dunn (Jessica) Seirra and Clayton of Homer; Lewis J Dunn (Erika), Adreanna and Trent of rural Walthill. Steve loved being a grandpa “papa”. It was one of the greatest joys of his life. Steve was known for his smile, sense of humor, big booming laugh, and his beard. He always carried his big coffee mug and loved singing to the radio. He had a genuine love of children, animals, and was a jack-of-all trades. He could fix almost anything. He loved the Peanuts comic strip and enjoyed sharing and passing his love of Charlie Brown on to his grandchildren. He enjoyed Nascar, Celtics and was a huge Packer’s fan. He never met a stranger. You couldn’t take anywhere that he didn’t know somebody that he would stop and take the time to visit with. Steve is survived by his wife Rita, sons: Lee Dunn and his children Emma and Ethan of Columbus, NE, Clinton (Jessica) Dunn and their children Seirra and Clayton of Homer, NE, and Lewis (Erika) Dunn and their children Adreanna and Trent of Walthill, NE, daughter April (Jeremy) Sundberg and their children Alec and Calleigh of Grand Island, NE, sisters Patricia (Don) McGhee of Hartington, NE, Sally (Tim) Jasa of Lyons, NE, and Mary (Larry) K. Marr of Walthill, NE. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles.
