Alvin Hingst

Alvin Hingst, 92, of Emerson, Nebraska died on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with Pastor Gretchen Ritola officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Emerson with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Emerson Senior Center. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Emerson is in charge of arrangements. Alvin was born on a farm southeast of Emerson on April 1, 1921, to Adolph G. and Lillie (Bokemper) Hingst. Alvin was the tenth child in a family of thirteen. He lived in the Emerson area and attended rural school. Alvin was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member his entire life. He volunteered for many church events, ushered for many years and was a member of the Men’s Organization. Alvin was called to duty by his country during World War II and served in the infantry in the Japanese Theater. When Alvin returned home he farmed with his mother and sister Eunice. After farming in several locations he bought a farm northwest of Emerson. He was devoted to farming and cared for his mother and sister. In 1994, he retired and moved into Emerson. Alvin enjoyed gardening in his spare time. In his later years he moved to Heritage of Emerson Care Center. There he made new friends and enjoyed the fellowship with many. Alvin never married but enjoyed life and loved his family. Alvin is survived by his sisters Mildred Brownell of Wakefield, NE, and Lillian Simons of Bromfield, CO; sister-in-law Marie Hingst of Emerson, NE, and many nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.
