Jeffrey W. Smith, 55, of Thurston, Nebraska passed away Thursday, August 01, 2013, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln, NE surrounded by his mother and twin daughters. Funeral services for Jeff will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE; with Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, August 5, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with a Prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pender, NE. Memorials may be directed to the Smith Family Benefit. Arrangements under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, Nebraska. Jeff was welcomed into heaven by his wife, Carol, who passed away June 1, from ovarian cancer. Jeff was born with a genetic disease called Alpha-1 Anti Trypsin and contracted Emphysema and COPD. Jeff attended and graduated from Pender High School in Pender, NE. Jeff married Carol Carpenter of Homer, NE on October 27, 1979, in Emerson, NE. Jeff aka "Smitty" was the Service Billing Clerk and Computer Repair Technician at Pender Implement. He could fix anything and everything; he enjoyed fishing and vacationing with his family in Minnesota. Jeff was also the Chief TV Remote Operator. Jeff won and lost millions while playing online poker. Most importantly, Jeff loved his wife and twin daughters. Jeff is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; father, Richard D. Smith; nephew, Wade Hoar. Jeff is survived by his twin daughters, Ashley Smith of Omaha, NE, Amber Smith of Lincoln, NE; mother Billie Smith of Battle Lake, MN; sister Julie (Mark) Hoar of Valley City, ND; niece Shay Hoar of Jamestown, ND; Carol's cousin Robin Bates of Omaha, NE.
