Ethel Marie Penn, 88, of Emerson, NE, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, NE. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Homer NE; Reverend Rich Savage will be officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 4, 2013 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Emerson, NE is in charge of local arrangements.
Additional Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, KS; Reverend Rodney Penn will be officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 8, 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Manhattan, KS. Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, KS is in charge of Kansas arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
Ethel was born August 10, 1924 to Theodore and Mary (Fryer) Myers in La Fontaine, KS. Ethel married Manuel B. Penn on October 18, 1942. To this union, four children were born. Ethel was a member of the Welcome Wagon and VFW in Manhattan, KS. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge in El Dorado, KS. She spent her time crocheting, traveling, dancing, gardening, and she was a phenomenal seamstress. Ethel loved the challenge of crossword puzzles. Ethel was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
Ethel is survived by her children; Mary Ethel Ellis, husband Larry, of Emerson, NE, Edward L. Penn, wife Kay, of St George, KS, and Patricia Rippberger, husband Dale, of Topeka, KS, two brothers; Ted Myers of Fredonia, KS, Don Myers of Derby, KS, one sister; Florence Crossfield of Moore, OK. Ethel has seven grandchildren; James Foxworthy, Rodney Penn, Stephanie Mohler, Sarah Spreer, Gregory Drew Penn, Jennifer Gilbert, Scott Rippberger. She had eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Manuel B. Penn, and son Theodore Steven Penn.
