Velma L. Forsberg, 86, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Funeral services for Velma will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Dave Rusk will be officiating. A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.
Velma was born on July 4, 1927 in Wakefield, Nebraska, the youngest daughter of Nels A Nelson and Anna (Swanson) Nelson. She attended and graduated from Wakefield High School. She later married Gordon Forsberg. The couple made their home in Wakefield. Velma was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, where she was active in church activities. She enjoyed cooking, baking and reading.
Velma is survived by her children: Dennis Kirk of Pittsburg, CA, Tony and his wife Marion Kirk of Lincoln, NE and a step son Mark and his wife Janice Forsberg of Grand Island, NE. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon, brothers: Ed, Reuben, Melvin and Bob Nelson; sisters Ruth Salmon, Mildred Heikes, Alice Walchek, Marian Jackwin and Esther Nelson.
