Gerald R. McGath, 98, of Pender, Nebraska died on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Pender with the Rev. Neal Allen officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral home in Pender with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, Nebraska.
Gerald was born on October 21, 1909 in North Bend, Nebraska, the son of Henry and Edith (Tunks) McGath. He was married to Elva Maryott from 1932 until her death in 1959. In 1961 Gerald and Mylet Otteman Kubik were married. Gerald was owner of Economy Market in Pender for 50 years, selling it in 1989. In his early days he was an avid baseball player. He enjoyed and was very competitive in bowling, golf and horseshoes. Gerald was a member of the United Church of Pender and Abu Bekr Shriners. He was also a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
Gerald is survived by his wife Mylet of Pender, a daughter, Vicky McGath of Seaside, Oregon, step children, Beth Nihsen and her husband Elden of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Robert Kubik and his wife Bonnie of Red Wing, Minnesota, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Elva.
