Jack Vogt, 90, of Bancroft, Nebraska died on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner, Nebraska.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft; Pastor Philip Hale will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.
Jack was born on March 24, 1923 in Bancroft, NE, the son of Martin and Evelyn (Jones) Vogt, and delivered at his home by his Aunt Marie. Jack was first named Hubert Elliot, which was changed on the fifth day of life to Jack Martin. Other members of the family were his two sisters Marie Ann and Diane. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he was also married on December 17, 1946 to Dolores Marie Brummond.
Jack attended Bancroft Public School and in 1943, after he was out of high school, the family moved to Fremont. There he worked as a stock clerk in the Mead ordinance Plant, where bombs were made to be used during WW II. Shortly after, he entered the United States Army. After basic training in Texas, he was stationed in the Fiji Islands assigned to the 142nd General Hospital as a medic. From here the unit was transferred to Calcutta, India. After receiving a honorable discharge in 1946, he went to work at the Cuming County Treasurers office in West Point, NE as Deputy County Treasure. Four years later, he went to work in the First National Bank in West Point, NE as a book keeper. Three years after that he came to Bancroft to work at First National Bank, where he started as Assistant Cashier, the Cashier and eventually was given the title of Vice President. He also sold insurance with Hilmer Wiig at the Bancroft Insurance Agency.
Jack served as Village Clerk for a number of years, and was a member of the American Legion Post 191. He served as secretary treasurer for the Aid Association for Lutherans and was a member of the Bancroft Commercial Club and Bancroft Fire Department.
Jack is survived by his daughter Carol Vogt of Bancroft, NE, son John (Mary Lynn) Vogt of Fremont, NE, Daughter-in-law Donna Vogt of Springfield, IL, three grandchildren Steven (Betsy) of Wichita, KS, Lisa (Adam) of Springfield, IL and Tim of Springfield, IL and two great grandchildren Joseph of Wichita, KS and Logan of Springfield, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Evelyn, his wife Dolores, a son Roger and sister Marie Ann.
