Click here to view the memorial video.Mardell M. Phipps, 70, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Pastor Jerome Cloninger will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler - Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. The family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Mardell was born January 21, 1938 in rural Wakefield, the daughter of Martin and Mabel Thomsen. Mardell graduated from Wakefield High School in 1956. On June 18, 1956, she married Donald Phipps of Decatur, Nebraska at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Mardell was proud to be a lifelong resident of Wakefield. She raised four children and worked in a number of business ventures with her husband, including owning the Wakefield Bowling Alley and Skating Rink. She and Don both worked for the Educational Service Unit for 28 years, delivering supplies to schools in six counties. Donald died in 2005. Survivors include three sons, Douglas Sr. of Wakefield, Dale and wife Kim Phipps of Norfolk, and David of Omaha, and one daughter, Debra Phipps of Wakefield. Mardell is also survived by five grandchildren, Doug Jr. and Crystal Phipps of Wakefield; and Brady, Alex and Sydney Phipps of Norfolk. She is also survived by her sister Marlene Fey of Papillion, Nebraska, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mabel and her husband Donald.
