Francis “Barney” L. Fuller, 84, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 in Sioux City at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE; Pastor Brion Tolzman is officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Pender, NE is in charge of arrangements. Barney, of rural Pender, NE was born on June 2, 1929 in Walthill, NE to Harve and Anna (Hammel) Fuller. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Barney was baptized and confirmed as an adult in September of 1951 by Reverend J.G. Werner of Walthill. He attended a rural school near the farm home. He helped his Dad farm and was employed at Campbell Manufacturing Company. Barney served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He was in the infantry and received the Purple Heart. He married Georgene Brehmer of Bancroft, NE on August 9, 1953. He worked on a farm south of Pender for a year and a half. He started farming in 1955 east of Pender. He served on the Northeast Pork Producers Board and Farmers Union Co-op. He was a 4-H leader for 30 years of the Clover Leaf Livestock Club and a member of the Dakota-Thurston Country Fair Board. Barney was also a member of the VFW and American Legion of Pender. He enjoyed serving on the church council. He loved to farm, hunt, fish, and play cards. He was proud of his family, his time serving his country, and gardening. He will especially be remembered by his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Georgene, sons; Harvey Lee of Elkland, MO, Lonnie Gene (Diane) of Elkland, MO, daughter; Cheryl Lynn (Steve) Utech of Sioux City, IA, grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Francis is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a step grandchild.
