Wilma D. Gustafson, 87, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Funeral services for Wilma will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Kelly Johnston will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Wilma was born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 6, 1926, the daughter of Paul and Elaine (Jensen) Polen. She attended school at Belvidere High School in Omaha. She was united in marriage to John Marlow Gustafson on July 23, 1943. To this union five children were born: Dan, Donna, Linda, Susan and Kim. The couple made their home on a farm near Wakefield. Wilma worked for over thirty years at the Wakefield Health Care Center, mostly as a CNA. She was a longtime member of the Wakefield Evangelical Covenant Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Wilma was a babysitter for many family members. Wilma was a wonderful baker and decorated cakes for many years. She was a loving, caring and kind mother and grandmother who was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son Dan (Sharon) Gustafson of Wakefield, NE, daughters Donna (Albert) Wegner, Linda (Ray) Albers and Susan Brown all of Omaha, NE and Kim (Gerald) Haglund of Wayne, NE, nineteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, thirty – Nine great grandchildren, eleven step great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Marlow in 1981, her parents Paul and Elaine, seven brothers and one sister and two sons-in-law Marcus Rotramel and Joseph Brown.
