Alice Carolyn Loofe Mahaney

February 3, 1924 — July 2, 2008

Alice Carolyn (Loofe) Mahaney, devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother of Walthill, Nebraska, joined the Lord on Wednesday July 2, 2008. She was surrounded by her loving family for whom she lead by example in service to others, compassion and gratitude for God’s daily blessings. In mourning are he husband of 65 years, Patrick Louis Mahaney, her four children, Constance, Keith, Janice (Lassek) and Vincent Mahaney, as well as two special daughters-in-law, Peggy Flaugh Mahaney (Keith’s wife) and Glenda Reiser Mahaney (Vincent’s wife). Alice was also loved by her 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Alice Carolyn Loofe Mahaney was the youngest child of George and Pauline (Ueding) Loofe. Her sister Kathryn Reynolds survives her. Siblings George Loofe, and Ruth Alam, and her parents preceded her in death. After attending Wayne State College, (then called State Teachers College), Alice taught school for three years until her marriage on July 5, 1943 to Patrick Mahaney. As a farmer’s wife and supreme homemaker, Alice placed her families needs above all else. She enjoyed organizing large family dinners and gatherings to keep everyone connected throughout her years, including Christmas of 2007. Beloved by her immediate and extended family members, as well as many friends, Alice is Thurston County’s famous “pie” and “cinnamon roll” maker. This fact is attested to by anyone and everyone fortunate enough to have enjoyed her baking expertise and her cheerful spirit. All will deeply miss Alice “Peg” Mahaney since she served as the matriarchic communication center for all of her family and friends. If you wanted information you wrote to, or called Alice, our message center. She was the light of our lives and we shall see her again. A Mass of Christian Burial will be observed on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill, Nebraska. A visitation will be held on July 4th, also at the church, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, Nebraska.
