Click here to view the video tribute.Edward J. Jackwin, 79, of San Diego, California died on July 17, 2008 at a hospital in San Diego. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Ross Erickson will be officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Wakefield American Legion Post #81.Edward was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 24, 1928, the son of John and Alice (Morosky) Jackwin. Edward was the oldest of four children in the family, and after his father’s death at an early age, was the main caregiver for the family. At the age of nineteen, Edward joined the United States Navy, where he was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsage. While in the Navy, Edward continued to box and was the Golden Glove Champion in 1952. Edward was married to Marian Nelson from Wakefield, Nebraska on February 2, 1952 in Yuma, Arizona. After their marriage, Edward and Marian lived in Wakefield a short while, where he worked at the grocery store. To this marriage a daughter Joanne was born. The couple made their home in San Diego, where they lived together until the time of Marian’s death on February 2, 2003. During his years in San Diego, Edward worked as a shipping clerk and the Navy Exchange.Edward enjoyed attending the theater and collecting coins. He also loved music and to dance. He was also a person who gave of himself. He donated to many organizations and programs. He will also be remembered as a great story teller.Edward is survived by his daughter Joanne Jackwin of Kirkland, Washington. He is also survived by his brother John and a sister Eleanor.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marian and a brother Frank.
