Roy Sorensen, 88, of Bancroft, Nebraska died on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Homestead Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bancroft with Fr. Michael Malloy officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery in Bancroft.
Roy was born on May 19, 1920 in Bancroft, Nebraska, the son of Jess and Edith Sorensen. He graduated from Bancroft High School, and attended Wayne State College for a short while. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Philippines. He married (Teresa) Pauline Crilly on August 25, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa. After the war, he worked on a farm and as an auto Mechanic for a short while before taking up selling insurance. Besides selling insurance, Roy loved music, playing piano and the saxophone. He also loved buying and working on cars, following the stock market, gardening and “inventing things”. He was a member of the American Legion, and served on the Bancroft School Board and the Town Board.
Roy is survived by his wife, Pauline, daughter Nancy Kimmons and her husband Mike of Lincoln, NE, son Joseph Sorensen of Cambria, CA, and daughter Jan Newell and her husband Bert of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren: Todd Keyser, Jess Sorensen, Bart Sorensen, Daniel Newell and his wife Lynsey; Kate Kimmons, and Whitney Newell, and a great granddaughter, Kaleigh Nosal. He is also survived by a sister Alice Masterson and her husband Dr. Mel Masterson of Kansas.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, brothers Dr. Clarence Sorensen, Earl Sorensen, sister Grace Dimmick, and brothers Ed Sorensen and Floyd Sorensen.
