Patrick Louis Mahaney

Patrick Louis Mahaney, devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather of Walthill, Nebraska Joined the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2008. In mourning are his four children, Constance, Keith, Janice (Lassek) and Vincent Mahaney, as well as two special daughters-in-law, Peggy Flaugh Mahaney (Keith’s wife) and Glenda Reiser Mahaney (Vincent’s wife). Patrick was admired by his thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Patrick Louis Mahaney was the oldest child of Thomas and Veronica (Gatzemeyer) Mahaney Sr. His brothers’ Donald and Joseph A. Mahaney survive him. His wife of 65 years, Alice Carolyn (Loofe), his siblings: Thomas Jr.; Martin; and Phyllis (Gill) Mahaney as well as his parents preceded him in death. After graduating from Winnebago High School in 1935, Patrick helped his parents and was the self-employed CEO of his own trucking business in the Walthill area. Patrick also did custom farming for other landowners, using his binder to harvest their crops. Patrick Louis Mahaney purchased the family farm located five miles from Walthill in 1943. That same year on July 5, he married Alice Carolyn Loofe. Together they formed a loving relationship and built a family farming business. In addition to his talents of being able to repair and fix like new most any kind of machinery or item, Patrick generously helped others to keep their equipment in good running order by assisting them with repairs, welding, etc. Patrick and Alice moved into town in 1978, but he drove back out to the country each day to continue working the farm. Most recently he used his construction talents to build a 24 foot addition to his garage from start to finish, completing every detail including roofing it at age 90. His family envied his high metabolism, his agility and flexible muscles and joints in 2006. Beloved by his immediate and extended family members, as well as many friends, Patrick shared his wisdom about all subjects from arts to washing machines. Compelling conversations about a variety of topics revealed what a wonderfully unique individual Patrick was in the Walthill community. His integrity and “can do” attitude will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services for Patrick will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 10:30 a.m. also at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael Eckley officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill.
