Click here to view the video tribute. Eleanor L. Ellis, 96, of Allen, Nebraska died on Wednesday, September 4, 2008 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. at the Allen United Methodist Church in Allen, Nebraska, Pastor Sara Simmons will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Springbank Friends Cemetery in Allen. Eleanor was born on a farm near Allen on July 30, 1912, the daughter of Albert and Alta (Emry) Johnson. She attended country school until the 8th grade and in 1929 graduated from Allen High School. She then attended college for two years in Central City. She was married to Vernon “Doc” Ellis on November 5, 1931 in Dakota City. To this union nine children were born. Vernon owned and operated a trucking business in Allen, and together they owned and operated the Home Café. They lived and worked in the Allen area until 1969, when they moved to Colorado. Eleanor served as a nurse’s aid in Wakefield and Englewood, Colorado, and also as a house cleaner in Allen and Colorado. In the mid 1970’s they returned to Allen where Eleanor and Vernon made their home. Eleanor was a member of the Springbank Friends Church of Allen. After the closing of the church Eleanor became a member of the Allen United Methodist Church, where she was baptized in 1981. Vernon died on January 8, 1988. Eleanor loved to entertain and set a pretty table for her friends and family. She enjoyed dancing and the time spent with her family.Eleanor is survived by her children: Vernon Jr. and wife Sandy of Torrington, Wyoming, Jack and wife Lorraine of Sheldon, Iowa, Keith and wife Dorothy of Englewood, Colorado, Don and wife Fern of Alta Loma, California, Gary and wife Twila of Littleton, Colorado, Joyce Edler of Yakima, Washington, Cal of Denver, Colorado, and Nancy and husband Merlin Schulz of Wakefield, Nebraska, 29 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren, a brother Bob and his wife Jan Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa and a sister Bernita Loney of Yakima, Washington.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon “Doc”, a son Jim, two grandchildren Sheldon and Rocky and two great grandchildren Brandon and Kyle and two sisters Clarice Roberts and Lucille Malcom.
