Bernhardt Greve, 84, of Pender, Nebraska died on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Don Olson will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Pender.
Bernhardt was born on the family farm South of Pender on February 7, 1924, the son of Hans Sr. and Anna (Sievers) Greve. He attended country school and later attended and graduated from Pender High School in 1942. He was confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on April 10, 1938. After graduating, Bernhardt moved to Washington to be near his brothers. He was drafted and served in the Philippine Islands during World War II. After returning from the war, he worked on the farm, later working for Automatic Equipment, Hesse Produce, the Pender and Bancroft Dehy’s and helped other farmers with their work. Bernhardt enjoyed taking care of his garden and fruit trees, and always made time to visit with family and friends.
Bernhardt is survived by his two brothers Albert and wife Viola Greve of Kansas City, Kansas and George Greve of Omaha, Nebraska, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: John, Hans Jr., Herman, Henry, Gustav, Thomas, Rudolph, and Ferdinand and his sisters: Anna Greve, Catherine Greve, Martha Ferguson and Eva Heise.
