Freddie G. Puls, 91, of Wayne, Nebraska died on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. Funeral services for Freddie will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne, Nebraska. The visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Bresser-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, with the family present from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will military honors, by the Wakefield American Legion, will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery near Pender, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
Freddie was born in Pender, Nebraska on March 28, 1923, the son of Frederick A. and Marie (Hamann) Puls. He attended country school before serving in the United States Army during WW II in the European Theater. On June 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Maxine Horton in Wayne, Nebraska. To this union five children were born: Denis, Kevin, David, Janis and JoAnn. The couple farmed near Emerson. Maxine died on January 3, 1995. Freddie was a life member of the Wakefield VFW Post #5765 and the American Legion Post #81 where he actively served in the color guard and as an officer. He was also a longtime member of the First Methodist Church in Wayne. On January 30, 1997, Freddie married Gena (Bjorklund) Luhr in Truth or Consequences, NM. The couple lived in Wayne and traveled in the winters to New Mexico. In 2000, Freddie was a Honorary High School Graduate from Wakefield High School. He enjoyed gardening, his family and farming.
Freddie is survived by his wife Gena of Wayne, NE, sons Denis of Puyallup, WA, Kevin (Shelia) of Emerson, NE and David of Kansas City, MO, daughters Janis Jordan of Fremont, NE and JoAnn (Larry) McCabe of Maplewood, MN. He is also survived by his step children: Bruce (Vicky) Luhr of Seward, NE, Steve (Vernae) Luhr of Wakefield, NE and Barbara (John) Okonoski of Scherville, IN. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and step grandchildren and seventeen great and step great grandchildren and a sister Mary Ann Young of Pender, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine, great grandson Ronnie Jordan, sister Katharine (Harry) Schlotfeld and Alice Mae (Jack) Frederickson, brother Donald Puls, brother-in-law Frances Young, son-in-law Robert Jordan and a daughter-in-law Doris Puls.
