Click here to view the video tribute.LeRoy Hammer, 78, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne; Pastor Kim Stover will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield, there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.LeRoy Hans Henry Hammer was born on January 28, 1930 to Ray and Mary (Baker) Hammer. He was baptized on April 30, 1930 in Wayne, Nebraska. LeRoy served in the Korean War in Love Company 31st Battalion from September 27, 1952 to August of 1953. He served on the front lines where he drove supply truck in the motor pool. Upon returning home, he married Evelyn Kubik in Pender, Nebraska on September 13, 1953. LeRoy and Evelyn lived and farmed south of Wakefield for 54 years. He retired in 2004, but remained active in farming for the remainder of his life. LeRoy had two loves in his life, his family and farming. He greatly enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors and fishing.LeRoy was a member of the Harold P. Lewin VFW in Thurston, Nebraska, the American Veterans in Wayne and was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3757 in Wayne. He is survived by his son Mike and wife Coleen Hammer of Wakefield, daughters Joyce and husband Tom Hattig of Wayne, and Susie and husband Jerry Rabe of Winside. He also has seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn in 2000, a son David in 1986, two brothers Lyle and Ralph Hammer and an infant sister.
