Ervin H. Schmidt, 93, of Beemer, Nebraska, formerly of Pender, died on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Pender, Ne with the Rev. Richard W. Pingel officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, Ne., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery. Ervin Herman Otto Schmidt was born on January 12, 1915 near Pender, Nebraska, the son of Robert and Marie (Kai) Schmidt. He was baptized on February 28, 1915, and confirmed on July 1, 1928 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. His Confirmation verse was Hebrews 13:5. He graduated from District #61 School in rural Pender. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 5, 1941, attending Tank Maintenance School in 1942. He was honorably discharged On January 3, 1946. Ervin and Pearl Essman were united in marriage on April 11th, 1948. They had three daughters and made their home on the Schmidt farm near Pender, before moving into Beemer in 2001. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He loved music and performed from childhood into his 90’s. During his life he worked as a mechanic, farmer, electrician and musician. Ervin is survived by his wife Pearl, of Beemer, NE, and three daughters: Cleone Ehrisman and her husband Roy of Beemer; Claudia Cordes and her husband Bill of Omaha, NE; and Cathy Kenyon and her husband Dennis of Kearney, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Artie and his wife Gwen Schmidt of Wisner, NE, a sister Laura Beerbohm also of Beemer and a sister Lucille Kaul of Lincoln, NE. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Walt and one sister, Lillian Suhr.
